Non-Surgical Treatment of Lombar Herniation (RF/Laser Ablation)

Non-Surgical Treatment of Lumbar Hernia: RF Ablation

A significant portion of our patients with lumbar hernia do not fully recover after physical therapy, or they experience the same discomforts again, even if they get rid of their pain for a while. These patients may eventually have to undergo lumbar hernia surgery. Unfortunately, for many lumbar hernia patients, lumbar hernia surgery may not be the definitive solution. On top of that, recurrence of herniated disc after surgery is a very common situation. For all these reasons, non-surgical treatment options such as RF Ablation/Laser Ablation are frequently used in the treatment of herniated disc.

RF Ablation/Laser Ablation treatment is a very easy and safe method in the treatment of herniated disc. Since it is a relatively new method, although it is a bit expensive, it is a very preferred method to avoid surgery. The treatment procedure is as follows: When The patient lying face down with local anesthesia interventional radiologist reaches into the herniated disc with the help of a thin needle from the back waist region of the patient, and the RF/Laser fiber extended to the herniated disc area is heated. It gathers the protruding disc inward. In this way, the pressure on the nerves disappears because the overflowing disc is shrinks. You can find the video of one of the devices developed for the RF Ablation method in the treatment of herniated disc  here.

This new treatment method is frequently applied by pain specialists algologists and interventional radiologists.
